RVs, Here We Come?

Looks like we might be getting an RV, rather than buying or renting in SoCal, so we’ve been looking and learning.

RenRen and Brett have been invaluable resources, of course.

Bob has stopped at Stier’s, in Bakersfield, a couple of times on his way home from pheresis, but we really need to be looking at things together.

So…

We went looking today. We first stopped at what used to be RVs of Merritt, in Scotts Valley, but now looks like a rental (and perhaps service?) arm of El Monte RV. No one of a sales nature seemed to be around (although they do have a dump station; the fee was $15.00, IIRC), but they did have a most unusual Class C parked on the lot:

This shot really does not convey just how long the thing looks. And yes, that’s a Ford F-550.

Seems this is made by Dynamax, out of Elkhart, IN. It’s their Isata; logically, it’s the F-Series:

From there, we wandered up the block, to Scotts Valley RV, and looked at a used Fleetwood Revolution LE; not particularly impressed by the presentation.

From there, we scooted out to Alpine RV, in Morgan Hill. We looked at another Revolution LE; a Fleetwood Discovery (or so Bob recalls; I don’t); a Winnebago Tour; and two Monaco Diplomats, one with the galley up front, the other with the galley behind.

The Winnie had TONS of storage, including great closet closet space. I’m not sure about the U-shaped dinette thing, but the bedroom and bathroom arrangement were pretty cool: to get to the bedroom, you can either go down the “hall” or through the bathroom (when the slides are closed, the hall is no longer there…).

The Diplomat with the galley aft was my favorite of the two, partly because that’s the way the Cathouse is set up; it’s got the bathroom divided across the hall. The galley forward has the reefer right behind the passenger seat (could come in really handy!), and has an all-in-one bathroom; across the hall from the bathroom is a wall with two windows! Somewhat disconcerting; Bob was a bit puzzled by the concept, as well.

On the front porch of the main building, and inside (with tent attached) was the cutest little thing:

Maybe we could tow one behind for Glenkerry?       ;-)
